"The Flash" follows Barry Allen (played by Ezra Miller) as he grapples with his ability to run at superhuman speeds which allows him to manipulate time and space. In the movie Barry is haunted by the unresolved trauma of his mother s murder and his father s wrongful imprisonment for the crime. Seeking to correct the past and save his mother Barry uses his speed to travel back in time but this decision has catastrophic consequences.
Barry s actions inadvertently create an alternate timeline known as the "Flashpoint " where the world is drastically different from the one he knows
- Bruce Wayne (played by Michael Keaton) in this timeline is an older grizzled version of Batman distinct from the one Barry is familiar with (who was played by Ben Affleck).
- Kara Zor-El/Supergirl (played by Sasha Calle) is introduced in this alternate reality adding a new dynamic to the story.
- The timeline is devoid of key heroes and is on the brink of disaster due to the looming threat of General Zod (reprised by Michael Shannon) who was previously defeated in "Man of Steel" (2013).
Realizing the damage he has caused Barry teams up with the older Batman and Supergirl to restore the original timeline. However fixing the timeline proves to be a monumental task forcing Barry to confront the limits of his powers and the reality that some events are destined to happen no matter how hard he tries to change them.
