The story picks up where the first film left off. Bird Island and Piggy Island are still at odds with the birds and pigs continuing their feud. Red (voiced by Jason Sudeikis) has become a hero after saving the eggs from the pigs and he enjoys his newfound fame. However when a new threat emerges the birds and pigs must put aside their differences and work together.
The new threat comes from Eagle Island led by the villainous Zeta (voiced by Leslie Jones). Zeta is tired of living in the frozen environment of Eagle Island and plans to launch ice bombs to take over Bird and Piggy Islands so she can claim them for herself.
Realizing that they must unite against this common enemy Leonard (voiced by Bill Hader) the leader of the pigs proposes a truce and suggests forming an alliance. Red reluctantly agrees and they form a team that includes returning characters like Chuck (voiced by Josh Gad) Bomb (voiced by Danny McBride) and new additions like Silver (voiced by Rachel Bloom) Chuck s sister who is a brilliant engineer.
Together the birds and pigs embark on a mission to infiltrate Eagle Island and stop Zeta s plan. The journey is filled with humorous mishaps action-packed sequences and the development of unlikely friendships. Along the way Red learns valuable lessons about teamwork humility and what it truly means to be a hero.
