The story follows Judy Hopps (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin) a young and optimistic rabbit from the rural town of Bunnyburrow who dreams of becoming the first rabbit police officer in Zootopia. Despite facing discrimination and doubts from her peers Judy graduates from the police academy at the top of her class and is assigned to the Zootopia Police Department (ZPD).
Upon arriving in Zootopia Judy quickly realizes that the city is not as perfect as she imagined. She is relegated to parking duty by Chief Bogo (voiced by Idris Elba) a tough and skeptical buffalo who doubts her abilities. Determined to prove herself Judy takes on a missing persons case involving the mysterious disappearance of a predator named Emmitt Otterton.
To solve the case Judy teams up with Nick Wilde (voiced by Jason Bateman) a sly and street-smart fox who works as a con artist. Despite their initial mistrust and differing backgrounds the unlikely duo uncovers a conspiracy that threatens the peace between predator and prey in Zootopia.
As Judy and Nick delve deeper into the investigation they discover that the missing predators have been reverting to a savage state due to a toxic plant. Their journey takes them through various districts of Zootopia from the icy Tundratown to the dense Rainforest District each inhabited by different animal species.
In the end Judy and Nick expose the mastermind behind the plot Assistant Mayor Bellwether (voiced by Jenny Slate) a seemingly sweet sheep who seeks to manipulate public fear of predators to gain power. With the case solved Judy earns the respect of her peers and Nick joins the ZPD as the first fox officer cementing their friendship and partnership.
