The story revolves around a young boy named Aman Sharma, affectionately called Banku (played by Aman Siddiqui), who moves with his family to an old mansion named Nath Villa in Goa. Banku s father, Aditya Sharma (played by Shah Rukh Khan), is a ship s engineer, and his mother, Anjali Sharma (played by Juhi Chawla), is a loving and caring homemaker.
Soon after moving into the mansion, Banku starts noticing strange occurrences in the house, and he eventually encounters a ghost. This ghost is none other than Kailash Nath (played by Amitabh Bachchan), the previous owner of the mansion. Kailash Nath, or "Bhootnath," as Banku calls him, is initially a grumpy and intimidating spirit who scares away anyone who tries to live in his house. However, Banku, with his innocent and fearless nature, befriends the ghost instead of being frightened by him.
As the story unfolds, Banku and Bhootnath develop a deep and unique friendship. Banku brings joy and life back into the lonely existence of Bhootnath, who gradually reveals his past. Kailash Nath s backstory is filled with tragedy, as he was betrayed by his own son and died with unresolved issues, which is why his spirit remained in the mansion.
The movie takes a poignant turn as Bhootnath, through his interactions with Banku and his family, learns the importance of forgiveness and moving on. The climax of the film is both emotional and uplifting as Bhootnath finally finds peace and decides to move on to the afterlife.
